Week #3 Summer Reading

I hope you have been able to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Remember, the rain never stopped us on a Friday hike, fall overnight, or spring trip.

Check out some of the sites from the post dated June 29, especially if you are looking for a book to read. I finished reaching for sun by Tracie Vaughn Zimmer; it’s a quick read and a wonderful story. I rate it a 9.

The next book that I read was Born to Run A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by  Christopher McDougall. It is a nonfiction book that will make you go for a run on a trail after you are done reading it. You will get to meet some of the world’s greatest endurance athletes that you have never heard about—the Tarahumara Indians and a host of eccentric runners from the states. They simply love to run incredible distances in the mountains of Colorado and the Copper Canyons of Mexico. You’ll also learn that we were meant to run long distances and have the body and biomechanics to do it—far superior than any other mammal on the planet. I could not put this book down—I give a 10. Click on the link above to check it out on Amazon, read some reviews, and see an interview with the author.

That book led me to further read and research for more information in October 2008 issue National Geographic on differences between Neanderthals and modern man and how it is all connected to running today.

I just started reading Three Cups of Tea One Man’s Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations…One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I will have more to say about this book next time.

Don’t forget to check back here next week to see what’s new. Post a comment about what you are reading or about anything I’ve read. Keep track of your reading and enjoy the summer. Go for a hike or a run.
