Week #7 Summer Reading for 8th Graders and Welcome to Team Vista to All Our 7th Graders

Welcome to Team Vista to all our 7th graders and welcome back to all our returning 8th graders. Letters were mailed out on Friday, August 7. The packet mailed by the office staff at the middle school contained many things. In case something was left out or lost by you, all you have to do is go the second column of the blog entitled Pages, click on the page entitled Copies From Summer Mailings. You can download all the forms or letters you need.

If you are an 8th grader, don’t forget to keep track of what you are reading on your summer reading log, someday list, and reading list. All new students should begin their summer reading as soon as possible. Remember, all students are required to read for at least 30 minutes a day (and at least 20 pages) and 7 days a week. Review the summer reading letter with your parents; everything is explained there.

If you are looking for something to read, check out the reading blog at the Center For Teaching and Learning. The blog is written by students from the school and books do not make a posting unless they are rated a 9 or 10 by the reviewer. Go back to my posts dated July 12 and June 25 for other links to recommendations and books that I have been reading. The summer reading letter has other links to sites where you can browse books and read recommendations.

Finally, post a comment here to what you have been reading this summer or books that you would recommend. Check the reviews written by the students at the CTL Book Blog—You Gotta Read This to see how a good book review is written. Then, post your review here on our blog. Proofread your review before you post it. It should be free of errors. When you post your review, the world becomes your audience. Make sure your writing makes sense and that you are proud of it. To post a comment, you must have an email address. Tell us whether you are a 7th or 8th grader and only leave the first initial of your last name. Insert a picture of the book jacket if you know how to do this and a link to Amazon.

Here is how you should sign your post:

Kellie L. grade 8/9, Team Vista or Katelynn S. grade 8/9, Team Vista

(For you it would be grade 7 or 8.)

Enjoy the rest of the summer and keep on reading.
