What’s up For the Week of May 16-20, 2011

1. Don’t forget to have your writing workshop binder when you come to class for our study of poetry. Notes were given in class last week along with handouts about sonnets. Matterhorn and Everest have poetry/writing workshop on Monday and Wednesday this week and Denali and Kilimanjaro on Tuesday and Thursday. Start thinking about a poem to memorize and perform at our end-of-the-year poetry slam.

2. If you were absent at all last week, make sure you are up to page 31 in Bull Run by Paul Fleischman. A new chapter packet was passed out last week. Bring your chapter packets, 2-page Note Handout, and your geography/history journal each day. Don’t forget to always read with a pencil in your hand—annotate by circling, underlining, writing notes on your handouts; leave tracks for your thinking.

3. Finally, the end of school and the spring trip are fast approaching. Gear checks begin on Monday, May 23 in basecamp. Check with your basecamp teacher as to what day you will be checked. Keep in mind the following end-of-year dates. All have been added to Google Calendar:

•Gear checks begin Monday, May 23 in basecamp.

•No School—Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.
