Today in SSEnglish, Monday, October 7, 2013

Here’s what we did today:

1. We began class with a new poem, “Creature of the Bog” (page 15) by our very own Myles N. Thank you to Myles for sharing this poem with Mrs. Peterson. The poem came to Myles while he was reading the “Legend of Sam Magee.” Make sure you update your Poetry Table of Contents.

2. Several new books were shared today as possibilities to add to your Someday List:

Moonlight Over Manifest and Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool

Not A Drop More To Drink by Mindy McGinnis

D-Day And The Normandy Invasion

A Corner Of A Foreign Field—The Illustrated Poetry of the First World War

3. We introduced a new activity through a resource called Listen Edition. Today’s listening activity centered around the essential question:

Can fracking cause earthquakes?

In your journal, using Q & A format, answer questions 1, 2, and 3 on the bottom of the handout.

Here’s a link to an audio transcript of the piece from Living on Earth that we listened to today.
