Today in SSEnglish, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 15 and 16, 2014

Here’s what we did today:

1. We began discussing what the meaning of collaboration is doing a quick write in our SSEnglish journals and then sharing that with turn-and-talk partners.

2. A handout, Common Interpersonal Skills for Collaboration, was shared and discussed. The skills:

—Leadership
—Decision Making
—Trust Building
—Turn Taking
—Active Listening
—Conflict Management

will be used, practiced, reflected on in the coming weeks as we work together in collaborative situations in advisory,  all classes, and on Friday hikes.

2. Everyone got a copy of the Collaboration Rubric, filled it out, and passed it in.

3. All work from the last week for the Ukraine Background check was passed back.

4. Study groups had additional time to prepare for a retest that will be given on Thursday. Keep track in your SSEnglish journal as to the steps taken to better prepared to the take the test again.

5. Political Cartoons—Unrest in Ukraine

We began working with political cartoons and how the cartoonist conveys his opinion of international events.

Each member of the study group received three handouts:

Political Cartoons-an overview

Political Cartoon #1

Questions—Political Cartoon #1

Working as a study group and keeping in mind all that we talked about regarding collaboration, complete the handout, Questions—Political Cartoon #1. A group sheet will be collected from each group and an individual copy from each member. Don’t forget about work quality.
