Today in SSEnglish, Monday, October 28, 2013

Here’s what we did today:

1. We began class with a poem that was passed out a few weeks ago (page 17 in the Poetry Table of Contents), “Phizzog” by Carl Sandburg.

2. Today’s booktalk was Green Witch by Alice Hoffman. Hoffman is one of Mrs. Peterson’s favorite authors. Talk to her for more information.

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Ashes by Ilsa Bick

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Gregor The Overlander by Suzanne Collins

3. Finally, we introduced the study skill/reading strategy called Reading With A Pencil. Mrs. Peterson demonstrated the technique to the whole class using the handout: Coyote  by Christine Schadler. The article appeared in the November/December 2010 issue of New Hampshire Fish & Game’s  New Hampshire Wildlife Journal.
