Here’s what we did today:

1. We began with a full team meeting to review and pass out the steps for discipline on Team Vista. All students need to review the paperwork and have a discussion with a parent. The gold, Steps for Student Discipline on Team Vista, needs to be returned signed by a parent/guardian to your basecamp teacher on Thursday, October 31. Copies of all of the forms for you to review with your folks are listed below:

Letter to Parent For Disrupting Class

Vista Behavior Analysis Plan

2. There is a good possibility of rain for Friday’s hike. Make sure your pack has two trash bags lining  it. Also, it is a good idea to have an extra set of dry clothes (No Cotton of course) in your pack. Finally, bring a baseball hat.

3. Please return the permission slip for the movie to your basecamp teacher as soon as possible. The cost of the trip is $12.00 and can be paid at a later date. Make checks payable to KRMS.

Here’s what we did today:

1. We began class with a poem that was passed out a few weeks ago (page 17 in the Poetry Table of Contents), “Phizzog” by Carl Sandburg.

2. Today’s booktalk was Green Witch by Alice Hoffman. Hoffman is one of Mrs. Peterson’s favorite authors. Talk to her for more information.

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

Ashes by Ilsa Bick

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Gregor The Overlander by Suzanne Collins

3. Finally, we introduced the study skill/reading strategy called Reading With A Pencil. Mrs. Peterson demonstrated the technique to the whole class using the handout: Coyote  by Christine Schadler. The article appeared in the November/December 2010 issue of New Hampshire Fish & Game’s  New Hampshire Wildlife Journal.

Permission Slips are due on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 for the field trips to Mount Roberts and Mount Bayle on Friday, Nov. 1 and Friday, November 8.

Today in SSEnglish, Monday, October 21 and Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Here’s what we did on Monday, October 21:

We all walked down to the Wolfeboro Public Library and had a tour and chance to browse for books. Many students returned with new library cards. This opportunity gave Vista students another place to find books to add to their Someday List. We will be taking another trip to the library in two to three weeks.

Here’s what we did today, Tuesday, October 22:

1. Groups were given about 30 minutes to put the finishing touches on their posters and prepare for the presentation. We passed out the Fracturing Presentation Checklist (tape/paste it into your SSEnglish Journal) highlighting what to present and reminders for producing a quality presentation.

2. Everyone was asked to complete the Fracturing Project Rubric Research and Collaboration Skills handout.

3. We ended class with several groups presenting. We’ll finish up with presentations on Thursday.

Don’t forget that tomorrow is a delayed opening—2 1/2 hours.
